Carnival's partnership with Dr. Seuss adds something special to the ship, beyond simply the cool and colorful WaterWorks. Under the Seuss at Sea programming, there's also a fantastical Dr. Seuss Bookville onboard Carnival Horizon, located on Deck 11, midship. Bookville is packed with multiple copies of every title from Dr. Seuss, and it's decorated with bright colors and large murals of the author's most-famous characters. The 2018-built Carnival Horizon cruise ship is the second Vista-class (modified Dream-class) vessel in the CCL fleet. Horizon is Carnival's "the most family-friendly ship" with the company's newest kids- and family dedicated staterooms, facilities and amenities. While it may lack the roller coaster and impressive waterslides of its newer sister cruise Mardi Gras, Carnival Horizon doesn’t fall short on entertainment either – plus it’s in great shape for its age (it was built in 2018). Among the most fun things to do on Carnival Horizon are the SkyRide capsule ride, Dr. Seuss’ WaterWorks waterpark, the IMAX movies, and SportSquare, with mini-golf and other family-friendly sports options. Those looking for some peace and quiet will prefer the adult-only Serenity Deck, complete with whirlpools and a bar.

The third Vista-class ship is Carnival Panorama, which first sailed in late 2019. However, Carnival Panorama stands apart from her sister ships, in that, unlike Carnival Horizon and Carnival Vista, rather than having an IMAX theater, she offers an indoor trampoline park. Guy’s Pig & Anchor Bar-B-Que Smokehouse Brewhouse isn’t necessarily exclusive to Carnival Horizon, but when it premiered on the ship, it was the first of its kind. Like celebrity chef Guy Fieri’s Guy’s Burger Joint, this restaurant is another collaboration with the Food Network star, providing casual eats in a fun, family-friendly environment. This time, he’s serving up barbecue and Southern-style side dishes, along some mouthwatering desserts. Adults will enjoy complimentary access to the adults-only Serenity deck, as well as the spa’s fitness center, while kids enjoy the complimentary access to children’s programming up until 10 p.m. There are even some room service menu items that you can get for free.
In 2024, the parent company (Carnival Corporation) had ~51% stake in the US$64+ billion industry. The fitness center carries a range of cardiovascular equipment, such as treadmills, ellipticals, rowing machines and stationary bikes. It also has a small array of LifeFitness weight machines as well as dumbbells up to 100 pounds. You also can purchase souvenir glasses and stainless-steel growlers, which you can refill at the Brewhouse throughout your cruise. (Growlers cost about $50 full for the first one, and refills are less than $20 each time.) Seating is available indoors or out.

Teens, ages 15 to 17, can come and go as they like and participate in things like sports and gaming tournaments, and theme events like punk rocker or mismatched outfit nights. The Cloud 9 fitness center is located at the front of the ship on Deck 12, linked to the spa. While the views during your workout are spectacular, the gym is surprisingly small for a ship that carries nearly 4,000 passengers.
Women wear cocktail dresses, pantsuits, evening gowns or elegant skirts with blouses. Late-night group babysitting, called Night Owls, is provided for a fee for kids 6 months to 11 years. (Passengers staying in the Family Harbor get one free Night Owls session.) Night Owls runs from 10 p.m.
The ship has a Japanese specialty restaurant named Bonsai Teppanyaki. The new dining venue is located within the Bonsai Sushi restaurant on Promenade Deck. On Carnival Horizon’s formal or elegant night, main dining room attire is fancier, with men wearing suits or dress pants with dress shirts and sport coats.

If your group likes to sail a little closer to the waves — or just in a calm location at the aft of the ship — choose a Family Harbor Cove Balcony stateroom.
